The 1951-mile-long international border between the United States and Mexico, which
stretches from California to Texas, is the one that is most frequent across the globe.
Even though the US government guards a sizable stretch of the border, about 800,000
illegal Mexican immigrants manage to pass each year. These immigrants use a variety of
strategies to enter the US, including, but not limited to: being smuggled across the
border, traversing unguarded sections of the border on foot or by swimming, digging
tunnels beneath the border, creating fictitious documents, or just overstaying a legal US
visa. Long an unresolved issue, it has recently gained attention as the Congress and
Senate negotiate an immigration bill that may significantly impact the present
immigration situation in Mexico. This immigration bill may include various activities
and policy reforms, including mass deportations, fast-track citizenship, and border wall
construction.
